Construction of Masula port, delayed for various reasons, to be grounded in 15 days Upgradation of international airports at Tirupati and Visakhapatnam to be speeded up HYDERABAD: The government is keen on putting construction of four new ports on a fast track and necessary ground work is being done, said Minister for Investments and Infrastructure Komatireddy Venkat Reddy here on Tuesday. Speaking to media persons, Mr. Reddy said that new ports would come up at Bhimili in Visakhapatnam, Bhavanapadu and Kalingapatnam in Srikakulam and Narsapur in West Godavari district. The survey for Bhavanapadu and Kalingapatnam had been completed and the work would be awarded through open tenders in three months, he said. Land allotment The construction of Masula port, which was delayed for various reasons, would also be grounded in 15 days. With the new land allotment policy to be finalised in the next few days, there would be clarity about the extent of land required for various ports, he added. While the State earned only Rs. 86 crore through existing ports, it set a target to earn a revenue of Rs.1,000 crore in one year. Gujarat with 25 private ports has set a target of Rs. 5,000 crore for the next financial year, he said. On upgradation of airports, Mr. Reddy said the works of international airports at Tirupati and Visakhapatnam would be speeded up. The Airport Authority of India released Rs. 300 crore for the Tirupati airport and the government released Rs.100 crore for the land and to speed up civil works. The government also proposed to set up regional Greenfield airports for better linkage and for triggering economic growth at Nellore, Nizamabad, Tadepalligudem, Ramagundam, Kurnool and Ongole. The Rajahmundry airport would be upgraded for operation of bigger aircrafts and the State signed an MoU with the Airports Authority of India (AAI). For distribution of LPG gas through pipeline in Hyderabad and Secunderabad, the tender process had been completed.
