Introduce courses that help rural students: Minister

Draw up master plan for systematic development of the university: Sriramulu

Vice-Chancellor favours public-private partnership for overall development of the university

BELLARY: Tourism Minister G. Janardhan Reddy and Health Minister B. Sriramulu on Tuesday launched the logo and the website of Vijayanagar Sri Krishnadevaraya University.

The university was established in August 2010.

Mr. Reddy promised to extend full support and cooperation, including getting the required funds sanctioned, for the overall development of the university. He urged Manjappa Hosamane, Vice-Chancellor of the university, and its teaching staff, to introduce courses that would help rural students, especially from the backward districts of Bellary and Koppal.

Mr. Sriramulu criticised some political leaders for merely calling Bellary and Koppal districts most backward without initiating any steps to develop them.

Calling upon the people to cooperate with the Government in the development of the district, Mr. Sriramulu said that efforts would be made by him and his colleague Mr. Reddy to get the required funds released from the Government for infrastructure development. “Now, the responsibility is more on the Vice-Chancellor and the staff to develop this university into a model and meet the aspirations of the people of the region,” he said and suggested that a master plan for its systematic development be drawn up at the earliest.

G. Somashekar Reddy, MLA, announced that he would donate funds for the construction of hostels for boys and girls on the university campus to commemorate his parents, Chengareddy and Rukminamma.

Favouring the public-private partnership for speedy development of the university, Mr. Hosamane, who presided over the function, appealed to the business houses, traders and industrialists to extend support and cooperation for the overall development of the university.
