COIMBATORE: Over 500 cadre of Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (PDK) on Monday staged a demonstration in protest against the practice of untouchability at Kurikkiliyampalayam, near Annur, on the outskirts of the city. Meeting held PDK general secretary K. Ramakrishnan said that Revenue Divisional Officer, Coimbatore, S. Shantha Kumar had already conducted a meeting with the representatives of the village and solved the issue of fetching water from the public tap. But, he added that still untouchability persisted in the form of twin-tumbler system at tea shops, denial of hair cut at saloons, denial of permission to use graveyards, and denial to entry for two-wheelers on roads where upper caste people were living.
