In protest:Residents of Melapalyam block traffic seeking drinking water. TIRUNELVELI: Residents of ward 38 of the corporation blocked traffic for a while at Melapalayam on Tuesday demanding regular supply of drinking water during the day. As there was no drinking water supply to the residents of Shaik Mohammed Street, Jamal Khader Street, Thaikka Street and two more streets of Melapalayam allegedly for a couple of weeks, the affected people blocked vehicular traffic on the stretch near the railway station. They also complained that the corporation was supplying drinking water in the midnight and that too for a short period. Assurance As the officials assured the protestors that drinking water would be supplied only during the day and in adequate quantity, the agitation was withdrawn. Following the protest, vehicular traffic from Melapalayam to Tirunelveli Town was affected for about 45 minutes.
