MANGALORE: J. Krishna Palemar, Minister in-charge for Dakshina Kannada district, on Monday promised to provide houses to the 1,126 families from the Koraga community in the district. Mr. Palemar was speaking at an interactive programme with gram panchayat members held on Monday. The programme had been organised by Sugarama, an association of the elected gram panchayat members. Seena Shetty, ombudsman for the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Scheme, said 1,126 Koraga families in the district did not have any shelter. An amount of Rs. 1.5 lakh was needed to build one decent house. “It's our dream to have houses for the Koragas, who are the original inhabitants of the region. Please give us funds,” Mr. Shetty asked Mr. Palemar. Ullal MLA U.T. Khader spoke.
