Creating opportunities:Sreepathi Kalkura (second from left), assistant general manager, NABARD, at the inauguration of a rural BPO training centre at the PMSSS in Puducherry on Wednesday. PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry Multipurpose Social Service Society (PMSSS), in association with the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, on Wednesday launched a BPO training programme for rural youth. The 90-day rural programme would help participants understand the working culture at BPOs, basics in telephone etiquette and other back office operations. This apart, the candidates, drawn from rural pockets in the Union Territory, will undertake courses in personality development and working of the internet. All candidates who successfully complete the courses would be awarded certificates by NASSCOM foundation, New Delhi. Speaking at the inauguration of the programme, Assistant General Manager of NABARD Sreepathi Kalkura said that it was necessary for the students to always be a step ahead of their peers in terms of skills to become employable in the market. Mr. Kalkura said that language was important issue for those who hailed from rural areas and that the candidates must develop the habit of speaking in English language to beat competition. Coordinator of the programme Stephen Raj said 90 rural students would benefit from the training this year. He said that out of the 90 persons who underwent the course last year, 85 were employed.
