All-India Kisan Sabha terms the decision unfair ‘Ensure all farmers get crop loans'
Dissent:Members of the All-India Kisan Sabha staging a demonstration in Gulbarga on Wednesday. GULBARGA: The All-India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) has condemned the Government's decision to reduce the insurance compensation for farmers who lost their crops in natural calamities and due to delay in rains from Rs. 9,000 to Rs. 4,500 per acre, here on Wednesday. State secretary of the AIKS, Shoukat Ali Alur, and district general secretary, Moula Mulla, who led the demonstration here, termed it “unfair”. Instead, the compensation should be increased to Rs. 12,000 per acre taking into consideration the increased cost of cultivation and agricultural inputs, they said. The AIKS also demanded the Government ensure timely and adequate supply of fertilizer and seeds to farmers to take up kharif sowing. ‘Take action' Stringent action must be taken against those who demanded more than the price fixed by the Government for fertilizer and seeds, they said. Mr. Alur said the Government should immediately release the promised compensation to farmers who lost their crops due to supply of substandard seeds by some agencies. The Government should also ensure that all farmers got crop loans. Cooperative and nationalised banks should be directed by Government to extend the crop loans to all eligible farmers, they added.
