Tiruvannamalai: Three persons have been arrested and a hunt for two others is on in the murder case of a guard at Primary Agricultural Cooperative Credit Society (PACCS) a week ago. Announcing this at a press conference here on Wednesday, Inspector-General of Police (North Zone) C. Sylendra Babu said Ayyappan (23), Raja (25) and Balaji (23), all belonging to Vellore, have been arrested in connection with the murder of Elumalai, security guard of Periya Kolappadi PACCS, on the night of June 22. The trio, along with Kamal and Govindaraj, who are still at large, tried to break the PACCS to rob the jewels that had been pledged with the society. “All the five persons are history sheeters involved in various crimes, including chain-snatching, two-wheeler lifting, house break-in, murder, etc., in other parts of the State, including Krishnagiri, Vellore and Tiruppur districts. Govindaraj is involved in an attempt to break into a bank near Tiruppur two years ago. The gang planned to rob the Periya Kolappadi PACCS on June 7, but abandoned the attempt when dogs in the vicinity started barking,” Mr. Babu said. “They seem to have planned it well and avoided carrying mobile phones so as not to leave behind a trail,” he said. When asked why all PACCS should not be provided armed guards, Mr. Babu said that PACCS are unbreakable and have strong rooms, safes and burglar alarms. However, the idea be considered, he said. Superintendent of Police B. Shamoondeswari was present at the press meet. Mr. Babu rewarded members of the special teams that cracked the case, including DSP Mohammend Balulullah.
