GULBARGA: A delegation belonging to Janawadi Mahila Sanghatane and the Pragnya Kanoonu Salaha Samiti met the in-charge chief executive officer of the Gulbarga Zilla Panchayat, Vasant Kulkarni, and demanded proper training for women members of the zilla panchayat to prevent intervention of their husbands in the discharge of their duties. The delegation led by president of the JMS, K. Neela, and president of the Pragnya Kanonu Salaha Samiti, Meenakshi Bali, said the intervention of husbands of women members of the zilla panchayat in its functioning was “wrong” and “illegal”. The delegation pointed out that women members should be trained to discharge their duties properly as their members and reduce their dependence on their husbands in official matters. Dr. Bali said that conducting an unauthorised meeting and allowing the husbands of the women members to participate in the discussions was wrong and the president should stop from taking such steps. The chief executive officer who heard the pleas said the zilla panchayat would initiate steps to provide training to women members and empower them.
