Punished:Life convicts Yugandhar and Kishore being taken away by the police in Tirupati on Wednesday.

TIRUPATI: Lakshmikumari, VIth Additional District and Sessions Judge of the Fast Track Court, Tirupati has slapped a life sentence on two youths in connection with the kidnap and murder of Guru Srinu, a III class student of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan here, in 2007.

According to the prosecution, Yugandhar (A1), along with four of his accomplices — Kishore (A2), Harinadh (A3), Munirajasekhar (A4) and Mohan Reddy (A5) — all in their 20s, had abducted the boy from his school and held him in captivity for nearly two days.

The main accused Yugandhar, a relative of the boy, was also staying in the same house and had allegedly kidnapped the boy on November 13, 2007, enraged over the boy's father reportedly thrashing him for some misappropriation in their shop.

Joins family in search

In fact, after abducting the boy and keeping him at a hideout, Yugandhar came back to the boy's house and joined the family members in their anxious search for their dear one, as though nothing had happened.

It was when the police started interrogating Yugandhar on suspicion after the boy's father told the police about the misappropriation incident that he spilled the beans and confessed to having killed the boy two days after the abduction.

Yugandhar was said to have stabbed the boy and later dumped his body in an irrigation tank at Mangalam village on the outskirts here from where the it was fished out later by the policemen.

Of the five accused, Yugandhar and Kishore, who were said to be studying Intermediate at the time of committing the crime, were convicted and sentenced to life by the Fast Track Court judge under various Sections 302 (murder), 364 (kidnap) and 201 (trying to tamper with evidence) of the IPC. The two were also awarded a seven- year term for kidnap and attempt to destroy evidence. All the sentences are to run concurrently.

Sources said that the judge, visibly moved by the violent end the boy had met at the hands of the cruel gang, told the two main accused that for the heinous crime they had committed, though they deserved death sentence, she was awarding them a life term considering their young age and their families.

Of the remaining three accused, Harinadh) and Munirajasekhar had reportedly committed suicide. The fifth accused, Mohan Reddy, was acquitted by the judge for want of evidence.

The chargesheet was filed and investigation conducted by the Alipiri Police.
