Nalgonda
Public issue:TDP women activists protesting against the rise in fuel prices in front of the Nalgonda Collectorate on Tuesday. NALGONDA: Activists of Telugu Desam Party Nalgonda district unit, on Wednesday, staged a dharna in front of the Collectorate here demanding that prices of diesel, kerosene, and cooking gas, which were raised recently, be reduced. Led by V. Swamy Goud, unit president, they raised slogans seeking rollback of the price hike, which was ‘imposing a burden on the poor'. Women activists of the party cooked using firewood and displayed an empty LPG cylinder as a mark of protest. Several district and town leaders of the party participated in the dharna. V. Chander Rao, Kodad MLA, who was one of the participants, criticised both the Central and the State governments for the recently unearthed scams, failing to check prices, and making false promises that they would protect the interests of the weaker sections. He lambasted the UPA government for raising the prices of petroleum products 24 times since coming to power. Later, a TDP delegation submitted a memorandum to Collector N. Mukteswara Rao seeking withdrawal of the increased prices of diesel, kerosene, and LPG.
