Tiruvannamalai: District Collector Anshul Mishra slapped a total fine of Rs. 27,03,878 on 20 contractors for delayed execution of 43 road works in the district. These include development of union and panchayat roads taken up by District Rural Development Agency (DRDA).
According to a press release from Collectorate on Wednesday, orders were given for 46 road works under Prime Minister's Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) 2007-08. While 37 of them were completed, nine works are pending beyond deadline.
The contractors of these works were slapped a fine of Rs. 8,81,000. Out of orders given for 26 road works under Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF)-XVI 2008-09 scheme, only two works were completed and for the remaining 24 works, fine amount has been fixed as each Rs.2,000/day. Since the contractors were instructed to complete these works within a month's time at the maximum, approximate fine amount works out at Rs.14,40,000, the release said.
Out of orders given for 19 works under RIDF-XV 2008-09 scheme, 16 were completed and contractors of remaining 3 works were fined to the tune of Rs. 1,72,878.
Orders were given for two road works under Pooled Assigned Revenue Scheme and both the works are still pending despite time has lapsed. Rs.2000/day has been fixed as fine for both the contractors and they were asked to complete the work within 15 days.
Thus total approximate fine works out at Rs.60,000.
“Apart from the fine if contractors fail to finish the works within extended timeline the orders would be cancelled, deposits forfeited and their names blacklisted,” the release said.
