Sand available at four more locations now Waiting time of lorries to come down COIMBATORE: The price of sand, which shot up to Rs. 65 a cubic feet during the last three months, is expected to decline to nearly 50 per cent of the prevalent cost. Builders here have welcomed the efforts of the State Government to bring down sand prices in the State. Construction industry sources said public infrastructure works, which had slowed down because of high sand prices and non-availability of sand in the market, would revive now. On Wednesday, builders here were able to get sand at nearly half the price that was prevalent last week. Sand was available at Vadiyam for Government works and at four more locations for all builders and traders in the State. Earlier, lorries used to wait for nearly 70 hours for filling up and now the waiting time was reduced to nearly 15 hours. The whole system was expected to stabilise in five days. Coimbatore required nearly 700 loads (each load is equal to 200 cubic feet) of sand a day. With Government taking up series of efforts, the prices were expected to come down to last year's average of Rs. 35 a cubic feet soon and availability would also improve. This would put on stream all construction projects that were pending because of non-availability of sand, the sources said.
