Nature photography exhibition begins

FIRST INFORMATION REPORT?:A police officer takes a look at the exhibits at the Nature's Environmental Photography Exhibition 2011 in Panaji on Wednesday.

PANAJI: Minister for Environment Aleixo Sequeira on Wednesday inaugurated “Nature's Environmental Photography exhibition-2011” at Art Gallery, Kala Academy here organised by Photo Journalists Association of Goa (PJAG) in association with Department of Science, Technology, and Environment.

Vandana Hari Naik of Margao bagged the first prize while Subhash Jan and Bhagyada Surya Narvekar of Ponda bagged the second and third places respectively in the environmental photography competition. Mukesh Azgaonakar was awarded a special jury award.

The competition theme, “Forests: Nature at your Service”, was chosen in a bid to support the U.N. International Year of Forests. The main aim of this exercise was to sensitise people about the “green cover” around them. A coffee table book Glimpses of Goan Forests comprising 50 selected photographs from the photography competition was released by Mr. Sequeira.

Mr. Sequeira said the photographers were going to be the ambassadors to spread the message of environment through their photographs. The judges of the competition, journalist Paul John Fernandes, artist Willy Goes, and environmentalist Rajendra Kerkar were honoured.

Mr. Kerkar made a presentation on “Goan Forests”. Michal Fernandes from the Department of Science, Technology and Environment, Member Secretary of Kala Academy Pandurang Phaldessai were present. PJAG president Rajtilak Naik welcomed the gathering The exhibition will be open on Thursday.
