A Correspondent

KALPETTA: The police arrested three men on Wednesday at Sulthan Bathery while they were allegedly transporting the carcass of a Sambar deer.

Superintendent of Police J. Jayanath placed assistant sub-inspector P.P. Geroge under suspension following statements by the accused that the officer had provided them ammunition.

The animal was reportedly poached from the Pukayilamalam forest area, under the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary.

Those arrested were identified as Usman of Pilavullathil at Beenachi, Satheesan of Melath at Pulpally, and Shoukathali of Padinjare Manzil at Karadippara in the district.

Circle Inspector of Police (Sulthan Bathery) P.K. Viswambharan said that two members of the gang had escaped.
