THRISSUR: The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) on Wednesday submitted the FIR in a case related to irregularities in the purchase of laminated bags by Malabar Cements Limited. Among the nine accused is industrialist V.M. Radhakrishnan. The others are the then MCL managing director S.S. Mony; the then general manager K. Muraleedharan Nair; the then deputy general manager (production) J. Sreedhar; the then manager (material purchase) D. Selvan; the then deputy general manager (engineering) E. Ravi; Nidhin Radhakrishnan, director of Pioneer Packers and son of V.M. Radhakrishnan; Chanda Mouli, director of the Pioneer Packers; and Harshad B. Patel, proprietor of Mumbai-based Rishi Packers. The FIR stated that corruption to the tune of Rs. 4.2 crore was perpetrated between 2003 and 2007 in the purchase of laminated bags. Flouting tender proceedings, the contract was given to Rishi Packers. Pioneer Packers had helped Rishi Packers secure the contract, the FIR said. Deputy Superintendent of Police (Vigilance) Safiullah Saeed submitted the FIR.
