TRAGEDY: The college bus that collided with a van at Marathakkara, near Thrissur,
Thrissur: Twenty-five persons, including students and teachers of Sahrdaya College of Engineering and Technology, Kodakara, suffered injuries when their college bus collided with a van at Marathakkara, near here, on Thursday. The injured were rushed to a city hospital and given first aid. The driver of the van, who sustained serious injuries, was admitted to hospital. There was nothing to worry about the condition of the teachers and students, the hospital sources said. Most of them were discharged after giving first aid. The accident occurred around 5 p.m. when the students and teachers were returning home. As road repair works were being undertaken on the National Highway near Thalore, both the vehicles, going in the opposite directions, were on the same side of the road divider. Frequent mishaps Accidents involving school and college buses have become frequent in the district of late. This is the third such accident happening in this month itself. Sixty children, aged between four and 15, suffered minor injuries when a private van transporting them to schools overturned near the Arival Bridge on Gandhi Nagar Second Street in Cherur on June 4. In a similar accident, 37 students of Pangamukku Higher Secondary School were injured when their school bus overturned at Chirakkal, near Kunnamkulam, on June 8.
