MADURAI: Swami Vivekananda is a role model without any parallel to the youth of the nation, Collector U. Sagayam, said.

After inaugurating the Vivekananda Express, a mobile exhibition on the life and preaching of Swami Vivekananda, at the Madurai Railway Station on Wednesday, Mr. Sayagam said the sage should not be confined to any particular religion as he belonged to the nation.

The youth should follow the teachings of Swami Vivekananda to imbibe the qualities of honesty and truth.

The Collector regretted that the increasing rate of literacy in the State had only led to increased incidence of frauds and deception. Education should impart honesty and patriotism, and a concern for the society.

The Divisional Railway Manager, A.K. Goel, praised the lofty concept of Swami on education – Education is the manifestation of the perfection already in man.

The exhibition would help the youth learn about his teachings. Swami Kamalathmananda of Ramakrishna Mutt said Swami Vivekananda was the right role model. The first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, had stressed this by mentioning it 12 times in his book, he said. Swami Kamalathmananda released a booklet, “Ilaignar Sinthanai” on the occasion.

Hundreds of students from various schools made a beeline at Platform 8 to go through the display. The mobile expo would be at the station till July 2.

The Additional Divisional Railway Manager, T. Venkatasubramanian, Senior Railway Public Relations Officer Venugopal, Station Manager Lenin Kumar, were present.
