Complex coronary surgery performed on 78-year-old patient in Secunderabad HYDERABAD: A complex coronary surgery performed at Apollo Hospitals, Secunderabad, on a 78-year-old patient was transmitted live to cardiologists who were attending a Complex Cardiovascular Catheter (C3) Cardiac Conference currently underway at Orlando, Florida, USA. The hospital doctors were invited by the C3 conference authorities to showcase the surgery. Invited According to the usual practice, Indian doctors in workshops and conferences watch live transmissions of advanced and latest surgeries performed by surgeons in United States and Europe. For change, however, a technically complicated heart procedure on the patient was done using an intra vascular ultrasound at Apollo, Secunderabad. The procedure was beamed live during the conference on Tuesday. Due to the advanced age of the patient, an open heart surgery was ruled out and a non-surgical intervention was performed by the hospital doctors. 7,000 delegates The C3 conference on heart is being attended by close to 7,000 delegates from a host of countries, doctors added. “Technology in India is on par with the best in the world. We used to watch live transmissions of advanced heart related surgeries from US and other countries. Times have surely changed,” said Head of Cardiology, Apollo Hospitals, Secunderabad, Dr. Shiva Kumar, who led the team of surgeons. The hospital authorities added that the stenting procedure of the heart on the patient was performed successfully.
