BANGALORE: Eighteen thought-provoking short films, produced by students of government schools and NGO-run learning centres, were screened here on Wednesday as part of the fifth annual Adobe Youth Voices programme.
These included documentaries, photo essays and music videos that focussed on various social issues such as hearing disability, rash driving, the problem of transgenders, and child labour.
Middle and high school students from underserved communities from 20 schools and learning centres across the State were equipped with digital media skills by the Adobe Youth Voices (AYV) and the American India Foundation (AIF).
Present at the event to cheer these young film producers was Kannada actor Prajwal Devaraj. He appreciated the work done by the students and said these short films gave more information than commercial films.
Students who took part in the film-making process also spoke at the event, expressing gratitude for the support they received from their teachers and educators at AYV and AIF.
Two school teams from the city — Christel House and Association for Promoting Social Action — have been selected to represent India at the Global AYV Summit 2011 to be held in Santa Clara, California, this year, said a release.
Meanwhile, Adobe also announced in a release that it would set up merit-based scholarships worth Rs. 1.25 lakh for students from AYV schools who wish to pursue media, animation and graphic design courses.
