VISAKHAPATNAM: HPCL has decided to adopt a municipal school in Malkapuram under the ‘Sweekaram' programme of the GVMC. Seven additional classrooms and a compound wall will be built and other facilities provided with the Rs.70 lakh donated by it. Mayor Pulusu Janardhana Rao, HPCL General Manager Y.K. Rao, and Visakhapatnam West MLA Malla Vijay Prasad participated in the foundation laying programme on Wednesday. The Mayor appealed to the other industrial units to come forward and adopt schools in the area. Mr. Rao said that Rs.50 lakh on additional class rooms and Rs. 2 lakh on compound wall would be spent. Furniture would be provided in a total of 20 rooms, including the new rooms, at an outlay of Rs. 8 lakh. Text and notebooks worth Rs.10 lakh have already been provided. So far, 20 schools have been adopted under ‘Sweekaram' by 15 organisations and philanthropists and are being developed at an outlay of Rs.2.9 crore. Corporator Pilla Kanakaraju, HPCL Chief Manager (HR) Sukumar Nandi, Senior Manager S.K. Mishra, Manager U.S. Sarma, Balyam Project Officer K. Vijay Kumar, GVMC deputy education officer Jayakumari participated.
