why move?:Members of the Samatha Sainik Dal protesting against the displacement of BANGALORE: Members of the Samatha Sainik Dal held a demonstration in front of the Slum Development Board here on Wednesday, demanding among other things, not to shift the residents of Bheemashaktinagar slum behind ISKCON in Rajajinagar. SSD president M. Venkataswamy said the residents of this slum had been living in the area for over 25 years without basic amenities. Instead of providing adequate facilities to them, the local councillor and presently Deputy Mayor S. Harish had been working towards shifting the slum. This is despite the government allocating funds for building houses for the slum-dwellers, he said. Other demands The other demands of the organisation included not to shift Ashwathapura slum in T. Dasarahalli; provision for housing for residents of Siddartha Colony in Peenya, Milk Colony in Rajajinagar, Vasanthapura slum and Haavaadigara slum. Mr. Venkataswamy said though funds had been sanctioned for construction of houses under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) in different slums, work has not started and he demanded immediate action.
