Joint effort of departments can resolve farmer issues: Collector

KULITHALAI: Coordinated efforts by the government departments such as the revenue, agriculture, public works, the TWAD Board and the TNEB, could solve the issues raised by farmers, said Collector V. Shobhana, here on Wednesday.

At the farmers' grievances day meet on the revenue divisional office campus, Ms. Shobhana said the aim should be to take the benefits of schemes to the doorsteps of the beneficiaries. Delay may eat into the intended benefit of the poor.

On scheme to multiply the productivity and income of the farmers, Ms. Shobhana urged the farmers to provide proper inputs. “We would like to user your field experiences to improve your status,'' she told the farmers.

A farmer M. Veeramalai of Kulithalai sought details of the welfare schemes being implemented this year.

Another farmer M. Manoharan of Karungalapalli wanted that the subsidy be given under the system of rice intensification in full and not as partial payment along with agricultural inputs.

A. Natarajan of Vadhiyam demanded that the district administration expedite the fixation of compensation for the damage banana growers suffered in the recent gale. Some farmers from Michampatti and Poigaiputhur also put forward similar requests. C. Suresh of Thokkupattipudur sought compensation through crop insurance for the rain-affected turmeric crop. T.K. Srinivasan of Nachalur wanted that the district administration clear silt from the Panayur Kaattu Vaari and clear the drainage channe.

Rajeswari; and National Agriculturalists Awareness Movement Karur district secretary Esanatham R. Selvaraj participated.

The DRO, T. Pitchaiah; Joint Director of Agriculture K. Jagadeesan; and PWD River Conservancy Division Assistant Executive Engineer Manimohan were present. Later, Ms. Shobahana and Mr. Pappa Sundaram distributed agricultural implements to farmers.
