155 villages to come under ‘Vazhnthu Kattuvom' scheme

Implementation in two phases; teams to identify beneficiaries


PUDUKOTTAI: The Vazhnthu Kattuvom scheme aimed at alleviating poverty through financial assistance and ensuring inclusive growth will be implemented in two phases in Pudukottai district, said B. Maheswari, Collector.

Speaking at a seminar on the implementation of this scheme in the district held here on Wednesday, Mrs. Maheswari said the scheme implemented by the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department will be implemented in 79 village panchayats in Gandarvakottai and Annavasal panchayat unions in the first phase. In the second phase it will be implemented in 76 panchayats in Kunnandarkoil and Karambakudi panchayat unions.

Separate teams will be formed for the identification of poor households, the most vulnerable sections, including the physically challenged and the marginalized communities in these village panchayats using participatory methodologies. Financial assistance and other help will be extended to them for their overall development. The project adopts community driven development approach involving village communities at every stage of project implementation.The Collector called upon the officials of all the government departments to extend a helping hand for the successful implementation of this project and the fruits of the scheme reached the real target group.

S. S. Kumar, project director, District Rural Development Agency, V. Tiruvarangam, project officer, Mahalir Thittam; S. Vasumathi, district project manager, Vazhnthu Kattuvom Project; chairpersons of the Gandarvakottai, Annavasal, Kunnandarkoil and Karambakudi panchayat unions and the presidents of the village panchayats in these unions participated in the seminar.
