Two held under Copyright Act

COIMBATORE: Kuniamuthur police have arrested a 27-year-old-man on Tuesday for selling pirated DVDs/CDs and pornography material at his shop.

Police said S. Azharuddin of Kuniamuthur was running a mobile shop at Vahab Petrol Bunk area. He was involved in selling pornography CDs and transferring such materials to mobile phones.

Police raided the shop and seized memory cards and computers.

A case was registered under Sections 53 (A), 63, 65 of the Copy Right Act and 292 (A) (sale of obscene books) of the Indian Penal Code.

Pirated CDs seized

In a special drive carried out to curb the sale of pirated CDs/DVDs, the city police seized 259 DVDs/CDs at a shop in Sundarapuram on Tuesday.

A special team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Muthurasu (Law and Order–South) conducted the raid. Police arrested K. Sahul Hameed (29), A. Salman (18), both from Ukkadam, and Ibrahim (32) of Karumbukadai.

Police recovered 137 new Tamil film CDs, 12 pornographic CDs, and 110 unlicensed CDs of movies.

A case was registered against him under Sections 65 of the Copy Rights Act and 292 (sale of obscene items) of the Indian Penal Code.

Suicide

N. Duraisamy (67) of Maniakaranpalayam reportedly ended his life by consuming poison on June 11.

He was admitted to a private hospital where he died on Tuesday.

Police said financial loss in the workshop he was running led him to committ suicide.

Saravanampatty police registered a case and are investigating.
