Growing big: The Hosur Municipality.

HOSUR: Selection Grade Municipality Hosur will expand from the present 11.7 square km to 72.41 square km when a town panchayat and four panchayats with an area of 60.70 square km will be merged with Hosur Municipality soon.

The Government on January 31 this year had issued an order on the merger.

The five panchayats to be merged are Mathigiri Town Panchayat, ZuZuvadi, Chennathur, Mookandapalli and Avalapalli Panchayats.

Notification

The Government on October 25 last year had issued a notification inviting objections, if any, against the merger within six weeks from the date of the notification.

Though the Government received objections from different quarters it did not find any merit in them.

To be earmarked

The wards will be earmarked during the next ordinary election to be held during September-October 2011. At present Hosur Municipality has 30 wards.

After the merger the number of wards will be 32 -- 15 in Mathigiri Town Panchayat, five each in Zuzuvadi and Mookandapalli, four in Avalapalli and three wards in Chennathur Panchayat.

The merger is expected to take place before the local body elections due in the last quarter of this year.

Income from different taxes such as property tax, house tax, professional tax and also income from other sources such as leased properties and rent would go up substantially as many industries in Mookandapalli and Zuzuvadi would come under Hosur Municipality, said Hosur Municipality vice-chairman N.S. Madhewaran. Population in the municipality might cross two lakh and taxable and other income would also soar, Mr. Madhewaran said.
