Attempt to marry off girl foiled in Dharapuram

Tirupur: The marriage of a 14-year-old girl from Dharapuram to a 27-year-old man was stopped on Wednesday after some of the girl's relatives intervened.
The girl was to be married to one of her relatives from Palani on July 3. Coming to know of this, some relatives of the girl brought the matter to the notice of the Revenue Divisional Officer at Dharapuram. They produced the wedding invitation cards. The RDO immediately referred the issue to District Collector M. Mathivanan, who issued a warning to the families that stringent action would be taken if they proceeded with the ceremony.
