December 1974: Prime Minister Indira Gandhi visits Pokhran where India's first nuclear explosion was conducted in May 1974. She is flanked by K.C. Pant (left) and AEC Chairman H.N. Sethna (right).



March 1975: Jayaprakash Narayan is on his `March to Parliament.' Three months later, the authoritarian Emergency was clamped down on the nation.



December 31, 1984: Rajiv Gandhi is elected leader of the Congress Parliamentary Party ahead of being chosen Prime Minister.



July 1983: Indira Gandhi felicitates Kapil Dev, captain of the Indian team that won the World Cup. Team manager P.R. Man Singh is with them.



December 16, 1971: Marking the end of the Bangladesh liberation war, Lt. Gen. A.K. Niazi of the Pakistan Army signs the Instrument of Surrender in Dhaka. Lt. Gen. J.S. Aurora, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Command, is seated next to him. Behind them, from left, are Vice-Admiral N. Krishnan, Air Marshal H.C. Dewan, Lt. Gen. Sagat Singh, and Maj. Gen. December 13, 2001: Parliament comes under terrorist attack.
