The Hindu Speaks On Scientific Facts

The Science and Technology supplement of The Hindu has been publishing a feature 'Question Corner', since 1995, which has continuously evoked response from a wide range of readers, students as well as the general public interested in science. The questions relate mainly to the phenomena that we witness in day-to-day life and do not call for knowledge in any speciality.

Reviewing the high level of readers' participation,it has been felt that the collection of questions and answers would fill the void and give quick accessibility. This will facilitate to spread the spirit of scientific interest and to reach a wider circle of our readers.

The questions that appear in this compilation are mostly general and will provide the students in the school and college level to reflect upon and embark on pursuing scientific enquiries as a hobby. This will enable them to refer to original sources and develop their curiosity in science.

The collection is broadly classified under the following heads to facilitate easy reference:

1. Earth Sciences: Atmosphere, Geology, Hydrology
2. Life Sciences`: Botany, Zoology, Health & Medicine
3. Physical Sciences : Astronomy, Physics, Chemistry
4. General: Applied Science & Technology

We hope this new addition to 'The Hindu Speaks' series would be of value to the students and the public.
