The Hindu Speaks On Education

Over the years, The Hindu's weekly page on education has evoked considerable interest on educators and of the genetal reading public alike.  The articles which appeared have covered practically the entire field - from pre-school education to pursuit of research degrees at the university level and to vocational and professional education.

The collection of articles and editorials that appear in this volume relate to the period 1994 - 1996.  There are 80 articles which represent a large cross - section of contributions made by many professional specialists.  They have been presented for ease to study and reference in five sections namely:

  • School Education
  • Higher Education
  • Professional Education
  • Teachers and Teaching
  • General Education

The services rendered by M/s S.Swaminathan, Business Editor, M.P.Govindaraj, Library Consultant, H.R. Mohan, Senior Systems Manager;  K. Rajendrababu, Deputy Chief Librarian and their colleagues in the compilation of this publication need special mention and we are thankful to them.  Our thanks are also due to the printers - Parakkat Venus Press, Chennai.

We hope this volume will, like our earlier publications in the `The Hindu Speaks' series, meet with an enthusiastic response from the public. We trust this will serve the teaching community as a source of inspiration for a renewed commitment to meet the challenges of the future.
