Guide to rearing birds

K. Kunhikrishnan

VALARTHUPAKSHIKAL — Popular Science: Shaik Ali; DC Books, Good Shepherd Street, DCB Complex, Kottayam-686001. Rs. 140.

WITH LIFESTYLE changes, more and more people are taking to rearing pets. There is hardly any book on rearing birds and this book is a manual for those who are interested in keeping pet birds.

The author compares rearing birds to an art. From his experience the author says that except pigeons, all other birds if let out of the cage will fly to freedom.

The importance of proper cages has been described in detail to make living conditions as natural as possible. The birds listed and their rearing make excellent reading and include the 16 species belonging to both common and rare ones like emus and cassowaries.

The pictures of each bird, though in a few cases not commendable, and the index make the book valuable.
