Inspiring autobiography

Ambika Ananth

AGNIPATHAM — Abdul Kalam Aatma Katha: Telugu Translation of "Wings of Fire: An autobiography by A.P.J. Abdul Kalam with Arun Tiwari" by Saroja Prasad; Pub. by Alakananda Prachuranalu, Publication Wing of Ashok Book Centre, Opp. Maris Stella College, Vijayawada-520008. Rs. 60.

THIS BOOK is the Telugu translation of The Wings of Fire — An autobiography by A. P. J. Abdul Kalam. Though simplified and abridged as a children's edition, this book gives an intimate feel of the original.

Sometime translations can be thrice removed from the original, but with artistic ease and authority over the craft, the translator of this book has brought out the quintessential aspect of the work admirably well. Dr. Kalam proved how with a positive and wholesome force, man can achieve his highest goals, rising from the lowest rung. This honest autobiography, is not just the story of one man, but records the positive, scientific and technological growth of our country.

The book has some important file photographs enhancing the value of the book.

Reading this convincing and absorbing account will be rewarding for the young citizens of our country, and herein lies the importance of translating his work into all vernacular languages.

This book is a must read.

The addendum at the end with meanings and explanations for scientific terms used in the book, is very informative and serves its purpose fully.
