THIS NOVEL, which received the first prize in a competition held by the Telugu Association of North America (TANA), truly deserves the accolades and rave appreciation it has received and can be hailed as a `landmark' in the genre of Telugu novel.
The significance of land, agriculture, crop, produce and seed to a peasant, and how important it is for him not to sever ties with them all these aspects have been captured commendably and presented through the best of verbal aesthetics with a rural flavour.
How the protagonist, Ramanatham, preserves his roots, by gaining `wings' of freedom through perseverance and struggle and retains his true identity, by fighting against many odds in his new life as an agriculturist, in depicting all this, and in portraying characters like Savithri, Rathhyya, Lachumamma and Punnamma who have deep earthy connections, the author reveals a great understanding of human relations.
The novel does not merely look into the problem of peasant families, but explores the deep-rooted reasons with great insight, and opens up a self-contained universe of the rural agricultural scenario and conveys some profound truths in unforgettable images.
