TAMIL

Poetry anthology

PKR

VANDI POYKKONDIRUKKIRATHU: Rs. 200.

RAMANANAIK KELUNGAL: Rs. 200. Both the books are authored by Ramanan; Copies can be had from Aadhaaram, 14, Ashtalakshmi Street, Muthulakshmi Nagar, Chitlapakkam, Chennai-600064.

THE FIRST book is a collection of 77 poems on different themes. The second spans 69 topics on day-to-day experiences. Both the volumes will be precious souvenirs for poetry lovers.

The poems in these volumes can be read and enjoyed whereas some of them can be enjoyed as songs. Special mention has to be made here about poetry reading, an art common in `kaviyarangam' (poets' forum). The books are accompanied by two CDs with pleasant songs and impressive poetry reading.

The themes chosen for the poems are quite familiar and well known to the common people. Similarly, the words and phrases used in the volumes have been chosen from the people's language.

The miserable and shocking incidents such as the fire accident in a school at Kumbakonam and tsunami in Tamil Nadu have been recorded in the first volume in an impressive poetic form. The tragedy in Bhopal is depicted in the second work. `Akkinip Piravesam', a different kind of tragedy in the Ramayana is given a wonderful treatment in the second volume.

Both the works are welcome additions to the field of Tamil poetry.
