THIS IS a reprint of a short novel originally published in Malaimathi. It is a renewed treat for this reviewer, having devoured it when it was hot off the press. Anbazhagan is a young man who has lost both his parents early on in his life. He is a part of the household of his uncle, Vinayakam, and there he is treated no better than a handyman.
Manickam, a shady character, persuades Anbazhagan to become an accomplice in a bank robbery that he has been contemplating. The methodology for the heist is drawn up meticulously. It is executed too with consummate skill. How far can one go in the planning of a crime?
Only Vasanth of the Ganesh-Vasanth duo appears in this story and that too rather late in the proceedings. But that is trigger enough for the solving of the crime.
A fast-paced novel from a master craftsman. The author carefully provides foreshadows of the events to come. So the end is not all-too-sudden but credible. The climax is thrilling, only a few minor printing errors impeding the flow. Characterisation is accomplished with a few deft, lively touches.
The cover is attractive, but no credit has been given to the designer.
