THE LIFE and teachings of Ramanuja (1017-1137 A.D.), who systematised the philosophy of Visishtadvaita, are a source of perennial inspiration. He was great as a thinker, philosopher, writer and above all, as a man, whose heart bled for the common man. Several accounts of the great saint have already appeared in print in English, Tamil and other languages.
This book by R.V. Svami scores a point over them. Combining great devotion and deep erudition with his charming and lucid style, the author has succeeded in making the work a delight to read. Without omitting any important event in Ramanuja’s life, he has explained the important tenets and doctrines in simple Tamil.
Another important aspect of the book is the chronological chart of important events in the life of Ramanuja, the year of birth of the preceptors of the school from Nathamuni to Manavala Mamuni, names of the 74 Simhasanadhipatis appointed by him to spread the tradition and the holy places visited by him.
The author deserves our admiration for this publication.
