Tamil

Self-enquiry

C. L. RAMAKRISHNAN

KADAVUL — En Siranda Nanbar: Swami Suddhananda; a Tamil translation of lectures of the Swamiji in English by Sivasankari and Lalitha Venkatesh, Vanathi Pathippagam, 23, Deenadayalu Street, T. Nagar, Chennai-600017. Rs. 60.

THIS HANDY volume in 42 chapters is a translation of Swami Suddhananda’s speeches in English into Tamil by Sivasankari and Lalitha Venkatesh. The translators have employed simple, facile and meaningful words, in their own style of writing. The book has “Self-enquiry” as the anchoring point. Suddhananda exhorts one to go beyond the “I”.

The Advaitic tenet of Ultimate Reality is brought out effectively by arguments and examples that we come across in day-to-day life. He says that Self-realisation is not difficult and should be attempted. This may be achieved if one understands one’s true nature and sans this knowledge, it will not be possible to comprehend other creations in this world.

On the face of it, a comparatively tough text but on repeated reading and contemplation of the ideas, things fall into place. A useful addition for the seeker of knowledge.
