THIS BOOK brings together within its covers two short novels by a multifaceted writer. The title story “Geetha Oru Venpura” revolves around the ex-owner of a tea stall now in financial doldrums. His worry is how to raise funds for the wedding of his daughter. But people to whom he had done good turns in the flourishing days of his life have not forgotten him; among them is a stage actor-turned-film actor who helps him after warding off spokes in the wheel attempted to be put in by the selfish and the narrow-minded.
The woman herself is a writer and speaker of no mean achievements and her literary talents get their own rewards.
The second story is about a writer with lofty ideals who would not make any compromises in the pursuit of his literary career. Set against him is a film script-writer who is not above pandering to the prurient tastes of the public as dictated by the movers and shakers of the tinsel world.
The author’s concern for the welfare of old stage and film personalities is expressed in both the stories. He is a purposive writer who believes in the spread of good thoughts and noble deeds. Religious tolerance, empowerment of women, and uplift of the poor and the downtrodden are recurring themes.
All in all, the readers are left with a bright view of the world when they lay down the book.
