TELUGU

Anthology of short stories

AMBIKA ANANTH

AMERICA TELUGU KADHANIKA — An Anthology of Short Stories by Telugu Writers of North America: Pub.by Vanguri Foundation of America Inc. copies can be had from Vahini Book Trust-1-9-286/3, Vidya Nagar, Hyderabad-44. Rs. 100.

THE SHORT story genre is a favoured medium for writers to give expression to the varied life situations and changing social patterns.

There are 23 stories in this anthology, which might not seem entirely novel, but the story telling technique adopted by the writers surely has a creative approach and a fresh perspective. The stories titled “Ubhayabhasha Praveena”, “Still an Indian”, and “Musuru Cheektlo Merupu Kiranam” deserve special mention.

With their intrinsic merit, natural portrayal of social realism from the perspective of the Indian diaspora living in the U.S., the stories are deep and captivating.

If one expects pathos of emptiness and alienated feelings from these writers, one will be totally taken by surprise by their balanced views, aesthetic expressions and easy tone. The form has the “touch of life” making the stories read like real incidents.
