Inner transformation
C. L. RAMAKRISHNAN
UL MANAP PURATCHI: J. Krishnamurti’s Lectures: S. Rajeswari — Tr. in Tamil; Narmada Pathippagam, 10, Nana Street, T. Nagar, Chennai-600017. Rs. 120.
IN THIS publication, 10 lectures of J. Krishnamurti (JK) delivered in English by him in Mumbai in 1953 have been rendered into Tamil. The concluding chapter is an extract of questions put to JK by some of the listeners and have interesting import and equally informative response.
The topics dealt with in these lectures cover a wide range of contemporary situations, such as the nature of human beings, societal behaviour, present-day problems faced by youth and the way out thereof. The crux of his thoughts indicates that economic and social progress, though necessary, will not bring about the desirable and desired changes in society. It can be only through one’s internal transformation. This tends to adumbrate that spiritualisation has a key role in bringing about this internal change, which is the title of this work.
In the talk “Open mind”, JK makes a fine, subtle point that collective activity is not that important, but it is collective thinking that matters. Likewise, the definition for meditation is educative and instructive. For a thinking individual, this is a fine book to reflect upon, because philosophy, particularly of JK’s brand, needs reading and re-reading, the concepts being profound.
