SRIHAMSA — Short Story Collection: T. Sriranga Swamy — Editor; pub. by Sreelekha Sahiti, H. No 14-5/2, Opp. M.R.O. Office, Sreeleka Colony, Hasanparthy, Warangal-506371. Rs. 100.
IN THIS collection which is probably meant for easy reading and relaxation, there are some potent stories. The collective psyche of the writers seems to be leaning on social consciousness and its multifaceted richness. Though the subject matter of these stories seem familiar, the variety in the presentation, crisp and pithy expressions and the down-to-earth language make them bring in new potencies and new realities. “Neerenda” “Animoon”, “Rachayitalu-Paathakulu” and “Karepaaku” fall in this category.
The story titled “Pasipilla” reveals a new paradigm to assert an important aspect of life — education — and gives a good message with a twist in the end. “Trinetra Veekashanam” deals with domestic violence and its aftermath in a detailed manner, though it reads more like an essay.
Some stories lack lustre thus making the reader feel a need to skip them. Writers must try to find newer creative vision with a world-view to gain a deeper understanding of the present condition and its intricacies in a novel to make them appealing in their creative work. Some stories are so short they can be termed as mini stories.
