THIS MONOGRAPH on Yoga describes briefly in a simple and comprehensible style the method of practising the ancient technique of Yoga to keep the body and mind healthy. Yoga as a preventive measure to keep the body and mind away from ailments is gaining more attention in foreign countries and studied systematically as a scientific discipline in several universities. Yoga has been considered as a spiritual practice in exploring and improving the quality of life with one’s own effort.
The author, after giving the details of how Yoga has been taught and handed down by enlightened sages like Patanjali, illustrates different postures of physical exercises besides meditation techniques within the main structure of the practice.
The chapters especially on Asanas, Pranayama, Suryanamaskara and several therapies are explained with the aid of very useful line-drawings and photographs which are highly desirable for understanding a subject of this kind as it has to be practised directly under the supervision of an expert.
The author in his introductory note has rightly said that the Yoga practices are an ideal antidote to stress and are proving to be the basis of a powerful therapy for mental and physical disorders. It revitalises the body and mind, and helps to prevent the effect of diseases.
The author deserves congratulations for this visual guide for practising Yoga.
