THIRUMAALIN AVATHAARAP PERUMAIGAL: J. Vijayalakshmi. Vanathi Pathippagam, 23, Deenadayaalu Street, T. Nagar, Chennai-600017. Rs. 70.
IN THIS book the author seeks to delineate the five forms of Lord Vishnu called Para, Vyuha, Vibhava, Antaryami, and Archa in a manner understandable to the modern reader. She dwells at length on the 10 incarnations, that is descents of the Lord in this world. This is called Vibhava.
In a special chapter devoted to the Ramayana, she elaborates on its various aspects and interesting characters of the epic. While on Krishna incarnation, she confines to the events described in the Bhagavata Purana. The concluding chapter is on Paramapadasopanam, a Manipravala work of Desika. She impressively describes each of the nine successive steps for reaching God in His divine abode, Paramapada.
She writes in a telling style. Her quotations from Tamil and Sanskrit works of the Azhvars, Parasara Bhattar, and Vedanta Desika are very apt and the explanation is lucid. Her manner of addressing God at the beginning of each chapter is touching. Altogether an inspiring booklet.
