THIS BOOK is a miscellany of writings with the main portion containing biographies of famous personalities from the pages of history.
The first section contains sketches on five personalities from Tamil Nadu — “Anna”, Kamaraj, Periyar, Muthuramalinga Thevar, and VOC — whose exemplary lives are detailed in an engaging style with many interesting anecdotes and inspiring quotes from literature, mostly from the Thirukkural.
In the second section, there are essays on three military personalities: Alexander, Napoleon and Hitler.
The author brings out their dark and hateful side even as he touches upon their attainment of greatness and fame or notoriety. He expresses his concern that the might and valour of the Tamil rulers Cheran Senguttuvan and Raja Raja Chozhan have not been truly valued by the world.
The third section is an appreciation of verses from the Kamba Ramayanam. The author draws pertinent parallels from English literature but these contain numerous misprints in the citations as well as in the titles and writers.
The last section, which seems to have been an afterthought, is a garland of quotable quotes.
