Wit and wisdom
Ambika Ananth
CHAMATKARA SRAVANTHI: P.V. L. Narasimha Rao; Rushi Prachuranalu, Main Road, Hanumanpet, Vijayawada-520003. Rs. 25.
THE HUMOROUS poems in this book are very good not for being just witty, but because there is no malice or cynicism even while making satirical observations. The intention being social consciousness, the mockery is not obnoxious but pleasant and crisp.
The author, also a journalist, a literary critic apart from being a poet makes the work more appealing because he can see everything from different perspectives with a strong knowledge base. It is just not impersonal joking about issues, it is a serious matter put together with great sense of humour.
There are four sections in this book of 100 poems, each dealing with different aspects of life. It is said that “to be able to see humour in any situation is to add a new dimension to the situation.” The author succeeds in adding fine dimensions to many life situations.
Though it is not easy to write humorous poems, Rao makes his expressions precise, pithy and pun-filled.
He, by setting up parallels, brings out the essence of his thought combining humour and worldly wisdom. The illustrations too tickle the funny bone of the readers. A must read book.
