THE READABILITY of a book depends not only on its words but also on its presentation. The case is especially true when the author’s intention is to make complex medical information accessible to lay readers without flummoxing them. This book belongs to that kind. Printed on colourful glossy paper and well illustrated, it manages to avoid the solemn grey of newsprint that may put some readers interested in the subject off.
An obstetrician-gynaecologist from Tirunelveli, she dips into her experience to describe how infertility in couples can be overcome. Laying female infertility in the context of social attitudes, the author offers the solace of technology to women and men with infertility but wishing desperately for parenthood.
She takes the readers through the process of maternity, ovulation, intra-uterine insemination and conception, providing at the same time tips on how to handle difficult pregnancies and take care of low birth weight babies. A handy tool, certainly, if you are curious about motherhood or attempting to acquire that status.
