THE AUTHOR in this monograph annotates under 51 headings various ancient and modern maxims collected from oriental and occidental literary sources leading the readers towards a virtuous way of life. The quotations include famous axioms found in the Vedas, the Upanishads, epics, works of Kalidasa and Sankaracharya, Veerasaiva Vachanas popular sayings of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and Mahatma Gandhi. A number of wise sayings of Goldsmith, Tennyson, Tolstoy and others are illustrated to substantiate the ideals of eastern scholars and philosophers.

The works of Kuvempu and DVG also find place in the illustrations. The presentation of these sayings is made so effectively that they teach the man the code of conduct and guides him in leading a meaningful life. The topics like teacher-student relationship, greediness, untouchability, and art of living, jealousy and many more uphold the moral standards and idealism of a very high order. The contents are enlightening.
