THIS IS a collection of editorials by Pandiri Mallikarjuna Rao (April 1903- December 1981), a progressive journalist, freedom fighter, connoisseur of fine arts and a lover of literature, written in his journal Kinnera during 1948-55 on social, political and historical issues.
Rao participated in India’s freedom movement at Allahabad under the leadership of Motilal Nehru, father of Jawaharlal Nehru. He was one of the 40 participants in the first ever Andhra Socialist Conference. He had the privilege of sheltering the then underground communist leaders who included E.M.S. Namboodripad who later became the first ever popularly elected communist Chief Minister of Kerala.
P. Krishnamohan, is bringing out in eight volumes the complete works of his father Mallikarjuna Rao.
The book under notice is the second volume containing 66 editorials, penned by Rao in his journal Kinnera, besides his musings on various topics. The first volume contained Rao’s editorials written in his earlier publication Subhaashi (1927).
His writings reflect in-depth knowledge of men and matters; social, political and economic affairs.
The publishers plan to bring out the eighth volume as the festschrift on Pandiri Mallikarjuna Rao. These lavishly bound volumes will be a valuable addition to the study of Telugu history.
