ALL THE 47 short stories in these two collections speak of the author’s achievements in this genre. With themes vast and varied, they offer immense scope for the small screen.
There are still too many people living below the poverty line. Within the small compass of a story, a little girl exhibits her prowess as a tightrope walker in the street. When money pours in from the audience tears well up in the eyes of her mother. The broad outline of some other stories: conservation of water resources; a little comfort to a son worried over the denial of a seat in a professional college; a mother’s mistaken views; an uphill task to remove an encroachment on one’s domain; a nightmare situation; the art of bringing up a child; it is important not to let things get out of perspective; and the wrath of a pawnbroker who had mistaken brass for gold.
