Mystery novel

Ambika Ananth

HITUDA ! OH RAHASYA SNEHITUDA: K. Praveena Reddy; Visalandhra Book House, 4-1-435, Bank Street, Hyderabad-500001.

Rs. 60.

THIS IS a realist, mystery novel with the lives of three women as founts of experiences, jealousy, insecurities and love. Much of the story sketches life’s rough terrain: what Sowmya, the soft-hearted creative person suffering from a split-personality goes through and how Neelima her friend a strong, intelligent and practical woman, with psychology background, gives her unconditional support to face life and its pitfalls. Mrinalini Devi, Sowmya’s mother-in-law, a possessive mother with a wicked streak born out of jealousy has a story of her own.

The novel opens with a murder and how the story unfolds to reveal the real killer is truly absorbing.

The character of Sandip, a loving, doting husband prior to which he would be an ardent fan of Sowmya writing letters incognito, gains respect as the story goes into a rigmarole of confusion and doubt.

The character of Shashank, Neelima’s husband too plays an important role in unravelling the mystery surrounding the mysterious letters from an unnamed well-wisher.

On the whole, the novel sustains an eerie suspense right through.
